The Superhero Project – super kids with special needs

The Superhero Project

The Superhero Project

When Renee Bergeron’s son Apollo was diagnosed with a rare heart defect she knew life for her precious boy was never going to be easy. But Apollo turned out to have the fighting spirit of a superhero and this inspired Renee to start a powerful photography project for special needs kids.

By the time he was three years old, Apollo had experienced two heart surgeries, a gastric feeding tube implanted and a multitude of medical procedures. Yet in front of his mum Renee’s camera he always posed with confidence.

Apollo loved seeing the photos of himself as a superhero, and Renee decided she wanted to share this power of image with other children. The Superhero Project was born.

The Superhero Project

In these beautiful photos the physical limitations of special needs kids are removed and we are shown what they really hold inside: the strength, courage, and power of a superhero.

The Superhero Project

Through the Superhero Project, Renee Bergeron offers free photography sessions for kids with special needs in hopes to raise awareness and just as a gift and a reach-out to families in similar situations to her own.

The Superhero Project

This heartwarming photo collection is published on Bergeron’s blog and each photo session is accompanied by a short bio on the adorable superhero pictured. Warm fuzzy feelings are guaranteed.

The Superhero Project

We at Babyology just love these stunning photos and the stories behind them. The Superhero Project captures so much more than children with disabilities, it shows us the joy, the energy, and the imagination that all children share.

Kate Murray

Kate Murray

Kate was a regular of Melbourne’s music and film scenes, but these days she is on the mum scene. Mother to one adorable little hipster, Kate loves seeking out the latest trends in technology, vintage-style kids clothing, and offbeat kids products. She is often found riding her bike by the Yarra river with baby on back, heading for a good soy latte at the latest kid-friendly cafe. She wants to get there before it becomes cool. So Melbourne.
