The ‘rawther’ fabulous Eloise Suite at the Plaza Hotel

Little Eloise fans can bring the story to life with a night at New York’s Plaza Hotel, complete with every possible Eloise detail – minus the high jinx!

Eloise by Kay Thompson is the charming story of a six-year-old girl, Eloise, who lives at the Plaza with her British nanny, her dog and her turtle. Hotel living leads to all sorts of adventures and Eloise is an exciting and excitable heroine. First published in 1955, Eloise has generations of fans who can now live the life of their heroine, if only for a night or two.

Two years ago, we showed you the incredibly sweet Eloise shop in New York’s Plaza Hotel. The Plaza has since expanded their Eloise attractions to include a one-of-a-kind Eloise Suite, designed by celebrated fashion designer Betsey Johnson.

Decorated in an Eloise-approved palette of pink and black, the Eloise Suite blends luxury and whimsy. Comprised of two rooms – one for erstwhile young Eloises and one for their parents – decor highlights include a signature Plaza chandelier, candy striped wall panels outlined with gold leaf moulding, a white zebra-print carpet, a king-size bed made up with custom-designed bedding depicting images of Eloise, a sparkly padded pink headboard and Eloise’s name scrawled in neon lights. “Rawther” wonderful, don’t you think?!

The Eloise experience is complete with a disposable Eloise camera so that guests can snap photos of their stay, Eloise DVDs and books, a tea set, Eloise dolls and an Eloise robe and towels.

The Plaza experience for children continues with a dedicated Children’s Concierge, a fabulous children’s dining menu and my favourite, the Tricycle Garage, where you can rent a child’s scooter, tricycle or bike for an hour or two or for a whole day – perfect for a quick scoot around Central Park.

Rates for the Eloise Suite start at US$995 per night and include a monogrammed Eloise bathrobe, a US$100 gift card to the Eloise shop, an Eloise camera, a framed photo of the guest inside the suite and an Eloise book. Bookings can be made online. Book flights to New York online through Flight Centre.

Katrina studied planning and design, did the hard yards working in a big office building and then traded it all in for a relaxing (!) life at home with four children. She now fills her time with writing, completing a degree in genetics and taxiing her children around Melbourne to their various sporting commitments (not necessarily in that order).
