The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore

It’s not often we get to show you a brand new, Academy Award winning movie in its entirety, right here on Babyology.

Take fifteen minutes out of your day for the treat that is The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. The film, which is about a man who cares for a library of lively books, won the 2012 Academy Award for animated short film.

Although it is the first film to come from Moonbot Studios, Mr. Morris Lessmore had creative heavyweights behind him, notably William Joyce, who once worked at Pixar, and Brandon Oldenburg (who has worked with DreamWorks).

For a short film, it’s packed with charming moments – from getting the books ‘dressed’ in their dust-jackets and the nail-biting page repair performed on one book to the fun little ‘Pop Goes the Weasel’ dance sequence.

I liked the references to Wizard of Oz (the film begins with a devastating storm) and Mary Poppins (a black and white world fills with colour) and, without giving anything away, the ending might just bring a tear to the eye.
