The Australian International Design Awards – a new category for kids!

Babyology is all about spotting good design. Over the years, the amount of well-designed gear for babies and kids has increased dramatically (in other words, we have no shortage of fabulous things to show you!). Naturally we were excited to see the Australian International Design Awards (AIDA) has a brand new category – Babies and Children.

The AIDA have been the launch pad for many of Australia’s most famous and iconic designs over the past five decades, including the Hills Hoist and the Deapsea Challenger (which was used by film director James Cameron to explore previously impossible depths of the ocean).

We can’t wait to see the entries for the Babies and Children category where submissions of the best baby goods, nursery furniture, toys, scooters, educational products and children’s play equipment from around the world will be judged for innovative and sophisticated design.

As parents know, good design cannot simply be judged on visual appearance – form, function, quality, safety and sustainability are all key parameters when it comes to baby and children’s gear.

Entries in the 2013 AIDA close on 28 March, 2013. Winners will be announced on 30 May, 2013. What baby and children’s products would you like to see nominated?

Katrina Whelen

Katrina studied planning and design, did the hard yards working in a big office building and then traded it all in for a relaxing (!) life at home with four children. She now fills her time with writing, completing a degree in genetics and taxiing her children around Melbourne to their various sporting commitments (not necessarily in that order).
