Sydney Olympic Park comes alive with Life in the Park

Animal-loving city kids needn’t go far to get an education in the great outdoors. Sydney Olympic Park is hosting Life in the Park, a day of activities and short talks about urban ecology on 28 August 2016.

From 10am to midday, Life in the Park will welcome experts sharing knowledge about urban wildlife at the Education Centre at Bicentennial Park. There will be displays of live reptiles, birds and frogs, as well as live EagleCAM footage of the park’s nesting White Bellied Sea Eagles.

Outside of peering at the fascinating creatures, there are plenty of family-friendly activities for kids of all ages. There’s frog-habitat building, ranger dress-up, and feather detective in which kids bring a feather to have it identified by bird experts.

For patient little souls, there are 20 minute talks by urban ecology experts. We’re keen to see “Fishing for microbats: where are the trawling bats of Sydney?” at 10:40am, and “Butterfly Birthplaces” at 11am.

For a full list of talks and more information about the day, go to Sydney Olympic Park’s website. The event is free.
