Must-see video: couple surprises family with much-longed-for adopted daughter

Infertility, infant loss and failed adoption are three equally heartbreaking journeys, all of which Lacey and Banks Farris have experienced first hand. Guided by this pain, the couple decided to keep their recent adoption news a surprise from family and friends until their daughter was safely in their arms.

This is the video that captures their immediate family’s reaction when meeting the newest addition to the family for the first time.

The moment when a grandparent first lays eyes on her grandbaby is priceless. And it is one that Lacey and Banks Farris capture on film in a video they titled, “Surprise Adoption”.

As Lacey makes her rounds to family members’ homes, including great grandparents, aunts and uncles, cradling Finley in her arms, Banks films the various reactions, all of which are of complete shock and sheer happiness.

“Both sides had been praying for so long for us,” Lacey tells People. “They had no idea!”

The journey to become parents has been nothing short of incredible for this brave beautiful couple. Lacey and Banks had been trying for a baby for 15 months before falling pregnant in 2012. The couple tragically lost their baby, a daughter they named Poppy, at 20 weeks pregnant.

“It was the hardest thing we’ve had to go through,” Lacey recalls. The couple then went through two failed rounds of intrauterine insemination before pursuing adoption.

In 2015 they received the happy news that they were selected for an open adoption but the biological mother and father decided to parent the baby, leaving Lacey and Banks with yet another devastating blow on their journey to become parents.

“I knew that we would pursue adoption again, and that when we did I didn’t want to tell any of our family until we actually had our baby in our home,” she says.

On Christmas Day 2015 the couple met with Finley’s birth mother and father in Georgia. They kept the pregnancy, the adoption and the visits back and forth to Finley’s biological parents a secret from everyone until 10 days after Finley’s birth.

The couple, who live in California, travelled to Tennessee, Alabama and Arizona to surprise their immediate family with their 10-day-old daughter. What a lovely surprise and a beautiful ending for this amazing couple. We wish them all the best on their parenting journey.

There is no denying that adoption is an incredible journey. Check out these little girls’ adorable reaction when they discover their parents have adopted a brother…just in time for Christmas as well as the photos that share one family’s adoption joy.
