You will want to be Sydney-side with the family for the amazing line-up of free kids events, musical acts, workshops, plus a fairground! Spectrum Now festival is happening in March and it is fabulous.
This is the second year of Sydney’s Spectrum Now festival and it promises to be even more spectacular and fun. With the heart of the festival nestled in The Domain, there are so many great events for parents and kids that we can’t possible list them all here. I’ll take you through some of the highlights, but check out the Spectrum Now website for full details.
First up, there is KidsZone – an oasis of fun for the little ones with a jumping castle, obstacle course, face painting and more. This fairground is free to attend and open every weekend during the festival. There are also a range of engaging free events for children. Little scientists with curious minds will love the Fizzics Kids Science Show that conducts amazing live science spectacles to create a bang-on great show. Learn to hula hoop with the La La SistarZ or catch a showing of The Vegetable Plot – a deliciously healthy dose of musical theatre.
There are also some ticketed events like the NIDA Kids Workshops ($18-24) for aspiring young actors – one that is sure to fill up quick. Or how about the gorgeous Babies Prom: Music for Tutus ($25) where children aged 2-5 can dance to classical music alongside ballerinas. Make sure to wear your favourite tutu!
Beyond the dedicated Kids section there are a tonne of fun activities that the whole family can enjoy. Marvel at carnival performers such as contortionists, fire-throwers and snake charmers. Or catch some homegrown musical talent on the music stages including Missy Higgins, Megan Washington, and Birds of Tokoyo.
It’s the family-friendly festival you just won’t want to miss. Go to Spectrum Now for a full program and events bookings. The event runs from 1-16 March, 2016, with most kids events kicking off next Saturday (March 5).
