Last week my husband sat me down, put his hand on my very pregnant belly, looked deep into my eyes… and tried to make me swear not to buy any new toys for our soon-to-be third child. I see his point. There’s enough toy clutter at our place to launch a squillion toy shops. But then he didn’t reckon on me finding these adorable creatures from Danish design duo Franck & Fischer.
I think every baby needs a special friend (or two) to cuddle and these animal critters, with their mismatched vintage-style fabrics, are just my thing. So despite my husband’s plea, there’s a good chance that Folmer the Dog, with his polka-dot ears and jaunty floral-patterned head, or Polly the polka-dotted Horse with her perfectly chewable ears, will end up under our tree this Christmas. I also love the OneTwo Activity Book, with its fanciful piggy and cow characters and candy-coloured ties, for keeping baby entertained in the cot.
All toys in the range are made from a mix of child-friendly tactile fabrics, including felt, cotton and terry, to encourage sensory development. Best of all, they can be safely thrown in the washing machine whenever they start looking a little manky from all that baby-love!
Franck & Fischer toys are new and exclusive in Australia to Hello, Charlie!, and include knitted rattles, small or large cuddle animals, pram toys and activity toys. Prices range from $30 to $75, with reasonable postage charges to all states.
