Show us your nursery – a shared space for twins Ava & Indiana

Stuck trying to design a shared nursery or bedroom for siblings? Do we have a treat for you! We’re getting a tour through a brilliant twins’ nursery, created by their mum, who also happens to be an interior designer.

It’s not something that would immediately come to mind when creating a nursery for twin girls, but somehow the bold chocolate walls of one-year-old twins Ava and Indiana’s room set the tone for this space perfectly. With subtle accents and playful additions, the twins’ room comes to life.

Here’s what Natalie D’Urso, owner of Milka Interiors, has to say about the evolution of the shared space:

Ava and Indiana’s room began with the idea of a warm space but where the colour of art and pretty objects would stand out. I soon realised that the amazing art that I liked was full of bold colours that needed a dark hue to allow it to shine. The chocolate wall was a big gamble. I loved the idea of the girly vintage boho feel with the twist of darker walls, which is very unexpected in a girl’s room.

Natalie says one of the most important decisions she had to make for the twins’ room was where to put two cots. In the end she played around until she had one free wall in the room, which would allow the girls to have a play and reading area.

A feature throughout the sisters’ space is a geometric theme – which is very much of the moment. The Le Toy Van Doll House was also used as colour inspiration throughout the room.

To offset the boldness of the chocolate walls, pastel colours of mint, pink and gold have been used to accent areas. While pops of yellows, blues, white and purples have also been used for an eclectic feel.

Natalie worked hard to source pieces that would grow with the girls, and allow the room to evolve, like the Lovestar vase, vintage dolls and peacock chair.

In the end the room is a reflection of the girls themselves, cheeky and mischievous! If you’ve fallen for this space, here’s a list of where to source much of the items used by Natalie:
