I’ll be up front and admit that hip hop music is not my cup of tea. However, in our house, my husband doesn’t mind it and whenever he gets control of the music selection, his hip hop choices certainly get the kids dancing… shame we have to cover their ears while they’re doing it. I have no problem with the kids listening to hip hop, but the language used is often completely inappropriate for kids.
Enter Secret Agent 23 Skidoo, the hip hop artist that sounds grown-up but is all for kids. Skidoo spent over ten years touring the US as part of a live hip hop band, and during that time became a dad. He realised there was a need for hip hop music that both kids and parents could relate to, and set about putting together his first album, Easy.
Easy is jam-packed with great tracks that will have you humming the whole day. My favourite is ‘Gotta Be Me’, which explores the differences between people. I also like the bluegrass intro to ‘Luck’, which then moves up a gear with Skidoo’s great beats. Many of the tracks also have a nice story-telling element, such as ‘The Last Dragon’ and ‘The Bluegrasshopper’. Check out the film clip of ‘Gotta Be Me’ below, to get a feel for Skidoo.
Easy is available on iTunes for $16.99 or directly from Secret Agent 23 Skidoo.
