Sanna Annukka – folk art heaven

There is something about folk-style art which is supremely charming – respecting simple lines and rejoicing in pattern, it traverses the tricky slopes of simplicity and ornateness with finesse. When you happen upon artwork as beautiful as that by Sanna Annukka, you can’t help but fall in love. I waited two months for this beautiful site to relaunch and when it finally did, I wasn’t disappointed! Gorgeous screenprints and lithographs can adorn nursery walls for contrasty yet warm artwork.

My favourites are the limited edition ‘Soul Birds‘ of which only one hundred of each type was made. Artist Sanna Annuka is half Finnish and spent her childhood summers in Lapland. There she learned about local folklore and Soul Birds, which are thought to deliver the soul to a newborn baby – what a perfectly apt gift these would make for a new arrival!

Buy a screenprint from £195, a lithograph for £65, with the birds at £75 and £95 respectively – plus shipping from the UK.
