Ryan Reynolds grants terminally ill boy’s wish and becomes real-life hero

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively and family

Could we love Ryan Reynolds any more, seriously? A few days ago he made a little boy’s dying wish come true when he Facetimed 5 year-old Daniel Downing from the set of Deadpool 2. Now that’s a true hero.

His biggest (little) fan

Although Deadpool may be rated R, Ryan Reynolds has many young fans around the globe and five-year-old Daniel Downing from Plympton, England might possibly be his biggest. Sadly on July 13, a trip to the hospital with his mother Stephanie to check his eyes, uncovered an inoperable brain tumour and little Daniel was given nine months – at most – to live. After being given this heartbreaking news, his mum set about making his final wish come true, a phone call with the actor to help lift his spirits.

“How’s it going little buddy?”

Ryan Reynolds phoned Daniel, opening the conversation with, “How’s it going little buddy?”. Daniel replied “poorly”, before asking if he could switch the phone call to Facetime. The actor kindly obliged.

“Ah, that’s awesome, what an awesome t-shirt!” Ryan said immediately about Daniel’s Deadpool top when they were able to see each other. “You know, I’m the only guy who doesn’t have one of those t-shirts. I need to get one of those.”

A special set tour

The actor then went on to explain he was on set filming the sequel to Daniel’s favourite film.

“Yeah, I am outside, you know what I am doing right now? I’m filming Deadpool 2. I’m about to walk into the set and shoot Deadpool 2,” Ryan said.

He then proceeded to show Daniel around the Deadpool 2 film set which is in Vancouver, Canada, with the camera crew all waving hello during the 15 minute Facetime chat. According to Daniel’s mother, who spoke to local news outlet, Plymouth Herald, the actor then had to rush off to film but she is so happy and grateful that the exchange was able to take place.

“I’m so happy for Daniel. It’s something he wouldn’t normally have been able to do and he was so excited. He told all his friends and his teachers. It’s nice to see him so excited because he has been a bit down lately,” said Stephanie.

There is a crowdfunding site set up for Daniel and his family which has already smashed it’s initial target.

Is there anything he can’t do?

This is not the first time everyone’s favourite Hollywood superstar, hilarious individual and awesome hubby and father of two has done something pretty amazing (he has two daughters James and Ines with actress Blake Lively). The 40-year-old recently admitted on social media that he saved his nephew’s life thanks to a CPR course he had recently taken. AND he also responded to a Canadian teenager earlier this month on witter who photoshopped his face onto her prom date photos as her boyfriend broke up with her days after the event.

“We should photoshop me over his yearbook picture next. #DontMessWithGabi” wrote the actor on Twitter.

What a real-life hero! We love you Ryan Reynolds. And we wish Daniel Downing and his family all the best at this very difficult time.
