Got peas interfering with your tomatoes? Do your kids go a little overboard with the carrot seeds so you end up growing two gigantic clumps of very stunted carrots?
Although I read that important information about seed spacing and position on the back of the packet, when I’m down there in the dirt with four kids helping me dig holes, we tend to redefine ‘companion planting’. In fact, our vegetable garden tends to end up looking very productive at one end and a little sparse at the other.
Designer Chris Chapman has come up with a very clever way of creating the perfect vegetable garden and most importantly, increasing your chances of a successful crop. The Roll-Out Veg Mat is a simple, nutrient enriched corrugated cardboard seed mat. The seeds are spaced as required and planted alongside companion species.
Each season a new mat becomes available for purchase, allowing people to produce a constant year round harvest of fresh home grown vegetables with minimal effort.
Now although the Veg Mat reduces the fun quotient of throwing dirt around, it doesn’t stop kids enjoying the nurturing or the eating part of owning a vege patch!
Before you start clearing the weeds to make way for a roll-out garden, know that the Veg Mat is from Britain and as it contains seeds, cannot be imported to Australia.
