How about taking your next holiday on the rocks? Ultra-modern rooms boast jaw-dropping views – you’ll be torn between luxuriating in your room or hitting the snowy slopes.
Ten thousand years ago, what is thought to be the biggest landslide of all time occurred, leaving scattered boulders in its wake and creating an area of outstanding beauty where today the Swiss holiday destinations of Flims, Laax and Falera are located.
RocksResort is inspired by those scattered boulders and the majestic vista that surrounds the Resort’s prime location in Laax, Switzerland. The facades of the eleven cube-shaped buildings are clad with locally-sourced grey quartzite stone that reflects light and the surrounding mountain scenery (hear the architects talk about the design here). The result is stunning.
Two hundred and twenty kilometres of world class ski trails at the doorstep may be the main drawcard for a visit to Rocksresort, but we can tell you the interior of the hotel is equally alluring. Like the exterior, the use of natural and raw materials continues inside – limewashed concrete floors contrast with the warmth of untreated oak panelling on the walls. Rooms are modern yet warm, with designer fittings and stone bathrooms that double as steam rooms for post-skiing relaxation.
Rocksresort caters extremely well for families and children. Apart from a range of family accommodation packages and apartments offering up to four bedrooms, a creche and skiing and snowboarding lessons, Rocksresort offers the unique Snow Wonderland program.
Snow Wonderland is ski lessons with a difference – traditional folk magician Ami Sabi shares stories, sings songs and teaches children about the surrounding forest, animals and mountains. Snow Wonderland also has ample and safe space for children to practice their ski skills.
Like most ski resorts, Rocks offers plenty to do in the summer months as well, including a Summer Wonderland program where children can join Ami Sabi and explore an Enchanted Forest or hunt for the Rocky Dragon of Falera – exciting stuff!
Rocksresort has one hundred and sixty apartments, seven restaurants and a shopping complex. The apartments are suitable for four, six or eight people. Rocksresort offers a variety of accommodation packages for families that include lift tickets from about $300 per night.
Laax is a ninety minute drive from either Zurich or Friedrichshafen airport. Book flights to Switzerland online through Flight Centre.
