RedBalloon Champagne Sailing Experience

My children recently went on a cruise and have since become quite obsessed with the water, boats, fishing and sailing. We decided to spend a sunny Sydney afternoon on a catamaran on Sydney Harbour and it was such a fun family activity.

Our skipper Tim collected us from Rose Bay Wharf for the four hour jaunt. It’s entirely up to you where you’d like to head. We decided to go towards the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, then divert to a beach just near Taronga Zoo where we swam while Tim prepared a BBQ lunch.

We came across Champagne Sailing through RedBalloon. We used a voucher to book our experience through the RedBalloon system, which all went very smoothly. We had to reschedule a few times due to weather but they were very flexible with booking new dates.

Seascape was the catamaran we had for the afternoon and it accommodates up to twenty people. The times for hire are completely up to you, whether morning, lunch, in the afternoon or at sunset. We opted for 11am-3pm to suit the kids and allow us to enjoy most of the day.

The catamaran is fully equipped with bathroom and toilet, refrigeration, two large eskys, gas BBQ & all crockery and cutlery. There is a large covered dining area with 360 degree views, as well as extensive sun-baking deck space where I spent most the afternoon. There is also easy swimming access via rear steps from each hull and a swim-up ladder at the front of our stunning catamaran.

You can self-cater the outing or have Champagne Sailing cater for you. We opted for the catered option and enjoyed a delicious BBQ of scotch fillet steaks for the adults and sausages for the kids, as well as bread rolls, salad, fruit and drinks.

Champagne Sailing four hour Harbour Tours start from $450 for two people for exclusive use of the yacht. For up to seven people, the price is $650.

We had such a fun afternoon with the kids but have decided to go again next summer and make it a child-free outing with up to ten couples. When you split the cost between a group of friends, it becomes a really fun and inexpensive afternoon adventure.
