Put the beat in our feet with Alex Papps

Papps - Beat in the Feet-1

I was at the movies one night with a friend and we spied Alex Papps in the crowd. My friend sighed and said “He’s my favourite presenter on Play School.” Moments later we both burst out laughing, realising that 10 years ago spotting Alex Papps would have prompted some reminiscing about Home and Away.

So while the parents in the audience might know Alex Papps best as Frank from Home and Away (I’m really showing my age now…), the kids know him from Play School. And as the voice behind the very catchy tune Let’s Put The Beat In Our Feet. It’s the title track from Papps’s debut album, a collection of 15 upbeat songs for preschoolers.

The kids will probably already have the moves for Let’s Put the Beat in Our Feet down (it’s a great little dance track) but it’s Buzzy Bee Bop that gets my feet really tapping. I also love the story in The Brave Explorers, which turns any outing into an adventure and I Wish I Was A…, a dreamy song that explores all sorts of vocations (such as becoming a cloud or a wallaby). The Ghost Who Makes a Smell will prompt a few giggles and Hannah The Go-Go Goanna has a refreshing Aussie theme.

Let’s Put The Beat In Our Feet is available online at the ABC Shop for $14.99. Also look out for Alex in the Play School Live Prince of Bears Tour, in South Australia in August and Western Australia in August/September.
