I was walking slowly up a steep hill one day, pushing my double Mountain Buggy with a newborn, a toddler and a few bags of shopping onboard when a passerby remarked “Who needs to go to gym when you’ve get that to push!”. How right they were – a quick estimate put the load that I was pushing at twenty-seven kilograms and with the size of the hills near my place, it really was a decent workout. Now there’s an app that records your efforts.
The Pramometer app turns your daily strolls (or power-walks) pushing your pram into a more structured workout. The app calculates your speed, time, distance, average pace and calories burned – nothing like a record of your progress to keep you motivated and aiming for your next goal.
The app includes a couple of really neat features – the map function allows you to see the real-time route you have taken on your walk, with milestones along the way. There’s also great summaries of your stats, including an option to share your results on Facebook and Twitter (that will match all those smug friends who are constantly posting “I just completed a ten kilometre run!”). But my favourite feature of Pramometer is ‘My Pram’, where you can customise your details with the type of pram you’re pushing – important, given that pushing a Bugaboo Bee is quite different to a vintage Emmaljunga!
