Princess Charlotte turns one – new birthday photos and a look back at her Royal Sweetness’ first year

Happy birthday, Princess Charlotte! One year ago today the world eagerly awaited the impending arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s second child. And, when the news broke that a Princess had arrived, we immediately fell in love. Well, prepare to fall in love all over again with these new pictures of the sweet-faced princess released just hours ago to mark her birthday.

The photographs, released late yesterday just in time for Princess Charlotte’s May 2 first birthday, were taken by her mum, Catherine, in April at their home in Norfolk. They show the little princess clambering on furniture inside and then taking some steps with her colourful walker outdoors – a very special first for the camera!

“The Duke and Duchess are happy to be able to share these family moments, ahead of their daughter’s first birthday,” a Kensington Palace spokesperson wrote.

“We hope that everyone enjoys these lovely photos as much as we do.”

Now, because three princess photos are never enough, let’s take a look back at some of our favourite moments with Princess Charlotte over the past 12 months.

Royal Baby Charlotte Name

The Duchess of Cambridge caught us all by surprise when she stepped out of the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital just 12 hours after news came of the baby’s birth.

The stunning mum gave the world their first glimpse of her newborn, dressed in a knitted yellow beanie and cosy white wrap and looking as perfect as can be.

Just two days later Kensington Palace released a statement announcing the Princess’ name: Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

One month after Princess Charlotte was born, Kensington Palace released the first sibling shot for the world to swoon over. The photo, which was taken at Amner Hall, the family’s home in Norfolk, showcases the beautiful bond between the royal siblings as Prince George plants a kiss on his little sister.

Everyone say nawwww.

In July we were treated to a look inside Princess Charlotte’s christening which took place at the Church of St Mary Magdalene. The intimate event included 21 guests and a very cheeky performance by big brother Prince George.

In November the world got another look at the glowing Princess (and another round of lovely shots taken by her mum), as Kensington Palace released two photos of Charlotte at six months of age. The smiling little Princess seems soft, sweet and squeezable in a pink cardigan and matching floral dress.

royals

Only a few days before Christmas, the Royals shared this stunning family photo along with a lovely holiday message. Princess Charlotte is a mini-me of her mum while Prince George certainly inherited his dad’s good looks.

A family that plays together stays together and the Royals are clearly enjoying their first family holiday. These snowy snaps were taken in March and marked the first time Princess Charlotte and her brother, Prince George experienced snow. They are clearly loving it!

The Queen recently celebrated her 90th birthday and both Prince Charlotte and Prince George were part of the royal family photo with their Great-Grandma (or “gan-gan” as Prince George calls her). We love this photo of Queen Elizabeth with her grand-children and great-grandchildren including Mia, Isla and Savannah Phillips and James, Viscount Severn and Lady Louise.

A big Babyology happy birthday to the sweet little Princess. May your second year be as colourful and bright as your first.

And make sure you ask your mum and dad to share more photos!
