The incredibly talented (and incredibly pregnant) Natalie Portman had a chat to Jimmy Kimmel about her pregnancy, revealing she’s a little bit doomsday prep when it comes to eating on the go. The idea of being hungry while she’s out is sparking all kinds of anxiety.
Natalie married dancer Benjamin Millepede in 2012. The pair have one son, Aleph, born in 2011.
Natalie was on Kimmel’s show to talk about her role as Jackie Onassis in the much-lauded movie ‘Jackie‘ and the awards nominations the film has scooped.
Jimmy was keen to talk about his own wife, who’s currently pregnant too, describing pregnancy as feeling like “Christmas all the time” with various perks and offers of special treatment (like cutting into the bathroom line or being offered a seat.)
Hmmm. Not sure the ladies would necessarily equate growing a person and all it entails with the festive feels of Christmas. Unless you found varicose veins and heartburn under the tree. Ignore us, if you did.
Natalie very politely chose not to correct her host.
So hungry right now
Next, Jimmy told Natalie that his expectant wife is super hungry pretty much all of the time.
“Are you eating all the time?” he asks Natalie.
“It’s like Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island 100 percent of the time in our house. Are you like that as well?”
“Yeah, I feel like I get a little panicky about food availability,” Natalie responded.
“Like, if I’m going somewhere, I’m like, ‘Will they have something that I will want to eat at some point?’ So before I go anywhere I will have a plate of pancakes or a veggie burger.”
She then explains that before her appearance at the recent Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG) Awards, she’d preemptively snacked to keep hunger pangs/food challenges at bay.
“That’s smart. Preemptive eating,” Jimmy noted admiringly.
He then pointed out that Natalie won an Oscar last time she was pregnant, speculating that pregnancy might be a kind of lucky charm for the upcoming Oscars. (Natalie is nominated for her role in “Jackie.”)
Jimmy also helpfully offered to deliver the baby, should Natalie go into labour during the ceremony.
Nat appeared quite heartened by the offer, but was possibly secretly thinking about pancakes, truth be told.
