Katherine Heigl and her husband, Josh Kelly, have released the first photos of their five-week-old son Joshua Bishop Kelly Jr. In a candid chat with PEOPLE magazine, Heigl admits that she’s never pictured herself carrying a child in the traditional sense.
The pregnancy was a surprise
“I’ve never been determined to experience pregnancy,” Heigl tells PEOPLE in an interview for their latest issue. “But I’m so grateful that I did. I think that if it hadn’t been a surprise, I’m not sure I would have done it. It was an incredible experience, it was kind of magical.”
Experience of adoption versus pregnancy
Heigl is also mother to two adopted daughters Naleigh (8) and Adalaide (4). “I actually prefer the adoption way because I wasn’t subject to hormones,” she said.
Little Joshua Jr. was delivered via c-section two weeks early because he was breech, but Heigl was surprised at how easy it all was.
“The whole thing was over and done with in an hour… I was out of the hospital in two days. I was totally fine and on my feet that evening after the caesarean,” she told PEOPLE magazine.
“It was way easier than I expected. I [imagined] a month long recovery … [but] I had a great experience, it wasn’t bad at all.”
Welcome to the world little Joshua Jr. and congratulations to Josh, Katherine, Naleigh and Adalaide!
