I have been watching
Polka for a while now. My local boutique began stocking the first ranges last year and they immediately caught my eye as innovative, fresh and utterly desirable. Of course at that stage it was all for girls. Fine, I said to myself, that’s ok. I was a little crestfallen but appreciated the work and good design that had gone into Polka’s girls’ clothes, and then I stored away a little kernel of hope that they would venture out into the world of boys’ clothes. It appears they were listening, and for Winter ’09 our little Aussie boys will be blessed by the chic hand of Polka!
And I’m sure liking what I see from the Winter ’09 catalogue photos
for both boys and girls. Divinely colourful knits in the form of vests, groovy jeans in a pre-loved look with quilted knee panels, and of course those amazing cotton prints in soft tops and leggings. Girls are treated to tartan tunics, cord skirts and incredible folk-print dresses, straight out of my fantasy midsummer celebrations in Sweden. You can’t help but swoon at the fabric design, the quality of the finish of each garment, and the way the Polka look is pulled together through layering and pattern combining.
Jo and Marika started Polka with the aim of creating a whole world
of eye candy in children’s fashion. Not only are the clothes fun,
bright and energetic in style, they are ultimately comfortable with
bigger neck and arm holes. And there’s no need to be precious with them in the laundry. They wash easy, they wear easy… so parents everywhere will love Polka clothing as much as the kids do!
This boys’ and girls’ Winter ranges will be online at Polka soon, where they’ll also feature further expansions into babywear and sleepwear. I can hardly wait to see those! Buy from
