Play all day – the manual

Want to know how to play all day? You hardly need a manual to answer that question but a new book, Play All Day, will certainly throw up some stylish and clever new ideas. Play All Day documents the most modern, innovative and engaging design for children.

In some respects, it appears to be what I consider a coffee-table book. That is, large format, beautiful illustrations, stunning photography and describing things I can only dream about. However, the book also includes ideas and solutions for parents that encourage imagination, hands-on interaction and active play with their kids.

Play All Day features both products and modern and innovative design for children in many contexts, including playgrounds, kindergarten architecture and interiors. From Viking softies and people made out of icy-pole sticks to awesome play equipment and bedrooms with built-in slides, it all looks so exciting that you’ll wish you were a kid again.

Play All Day would make a great bookshelf companion to another Babyology favourite, Designed For Kids.

Play All Day by R.Klanten and S.Ehmann is available in Australia for $130 from Published Art.

Katrina Whelen

Katrina studied planning and design, did the hard yards working in a big office building and then traded it all in for a relaxing (!) life at home with four children. She now fills her time with writing, completing a degree in genetics and taxiing her children around Melbourne to their various sporting commitments (not necessarily in that order).
