Do you have any idea what these delightful things are? Therein lies the beauty – they can be anything you or more importantly, your child, can imagine.
From the beautiful mind of their French creator Florence Bories, these Pigmée dolls have emerged from a cotton sheet, a throwback to the blissful memories of old rag dolls. They have no front, no back, no face – but their beauty is stunning in its simplicity.
They come in a variety of sizes and patterns, but the plain vintage cotton, to me, is magnifique. The dolls are hand sewn, bearing a stamp with the words “fait main” – handmade.
If they’re not enough to entice you into a world of traditional, and oh-so freeing make-believe, then the other creations from the hands of Florence surely are. You see, she’s created an entire universe for her Pigmée dolls. Garlands, light pendants and cushions make for a cosy world for the dolls to explore. But by far my favourite accessory has to be the wooden swing. They animate the dolls, bringing them to life.
The dolls start at €30, from Serendipity, which ships internationally.
