Picture perfect: What it’s like to be a new mum


The first months of parenting can be many things. Joyful, sleep-deprived, fun, frustrating, chaotic, breathtaking, daunting… the list goes on. One new mum has drawn on her experiences – quite literally – in a hilarious new book about the trials and tribulations of being a first-time parent.

Scottish illustrator Lucy Scott started jotting down the drawings for her book, Doodle Diary of a New Mum, after having her first child in 2012. Her publisher, Running Press, writes: “Despite her extensive pre-baby research, nothing prepared her for the momentous task of caring for this new little person.”

The book’s 120 bi-colour illustrations bring to life everything from breastfeeding to starting solids to number threes and, naturally, lack of sleep. And boy can we relate! We think you will too – take a look at these so-true pictures:
