Our pick of the Big Apple crop – Playtime New York 2013

The Playtime trade show is a melting pot of talent where we get a sneak peak of what’s to come from exhibitors the world over, which is a double edged sword – we see, then we have to wait! Click through to see newcomers to the Playtime scene in New York.

The summer clothing from Velveteen has me longing for warm days and nights like nothing else during our dreary Australian winter. Plain and printed cotton spaghetti strap tops, onesies, ruffled bloomers, jumpsuits and playsuits galore – it’s all  made for easy breezy summer dressing.

Never one to shy away from colour, Spanish company Maa shoes are delivering big on pops of colour to add to any outfit. Amazingly handmade, Maa know how to appeal to children. Be it ankle boots, sandals, sneakers or ballet flats, every colour of the rainbow is taken care of!

Neige made their exhibitors debut at Playtime New York and I’ve got to say, their clothing is divine. It’s age appropriate, just the right amount of fuss, classic clothing for children. Neige separates are designed to mix and match with others within the collection – making for a perfect clothing capsule. I’m more than willing to wear the Liberty pear print with everything I own (unfortunately sizing doesn’t extend to adults!).

I said it once and I’ll say it again, I’m always excited to see a collection bright and childlike like that from Belgium label Maan. This collection is a celebration of sublime colour mixed with bold prints, right down to scarves and belts, perfect for children!

Babyology has a real soft spot for knitted toys and these gems from Fournier are positively swoonworthy. Environmentally and socially responsible, these special toys are made by Bolivian artisans and support Bolivian communities. Fournier toys are made using pima cotton and baby alpaca wool.

The Zen Swaddle from Nested Bean has me intrigued and I’m sure it will pique your interest too. Nested Bean has created the Zen Swaddle in lightweight Peruvian cotton, designed to mimic a ‘mother’s touch’ by applying gentle pressure to all the right places to encourage a little extra sleep from your baby. Whether it does or not, we don’t know for sure, but they’re beautiful swaddles all the same!
