OshKosh picks adorable Asher as the star of their inclusive ad campaign

The family of adorable Asher Nash were not going to let an agency rejection stop their little boy from being considered as a face of OshKosh B’gosh. They got in touch with the popular kids’ label and just a few months down the track, their cute kiddo is starring in the company’s Christmas campaign.

“No special needs”

Perhaps you read our story about Asher and mum Meagan’s initially upsetting experience of getting knocked back for an open modelling call, a little while ago?

The agency managing the callout told Meagan they did not require a “special needs baby” and did not even bother to pass then 15-month-old Asher’s information on to their client, OshKosh.

A disappointed Meagan shared details of the rejection on Facebook, stressing that she hoped brands would better advocate for diversity in their marketing and advertising.

“I don’t want them to use him because of this fuss we are making on the internet. I want them to use him because they value him and see how much he could contribute to their advertisement. Children with Down syndrome and other disabilities are incredible human beings, and we want OshKosh to want to help change the world’s perception,” Meagan told The Mighty back in October.

Everybody loves Asher

Understandably, Facebook fell in love with Asher and Meagan’s post quickly went viral. OshKosh were listening and did not share their agency’s hasty ‘no special needs’ judgement.

They fell in love with Asher too, meeting with the Nash family and signing the little boy for their festive campaign on the spot.

Mum Meagan says this was further confirmation of just how ace her little boy is.

“I knew when Asher was born he was destined to be great and do great things,” Meagan told CBS News.

“I am very proud to share his beauty with the world.”

Spreading awareness

Meagan could not be prouder of the resulting campaign.

“I feel so many emotions after seeing the ad,” Meagan told The Mighty’s Jordan Davidson.

“I set out to spread awareness on an issue we face in the world today, and people actually not only took notice, but they are also wanting to spread awareness and make a change like OshKosh did.”

Meagan says Asher is enjoying his modelling career and will soon be working with Toys R Us and a few other brands.
