One-of-a-kind baby boys’ clothes from Melbourne’s Mr Willo

Mr Willo Shirt

It’s often slim pickings when dressing baby boys. There are blue digger hoodies, blue train hoodies and blue aeroplane hoodies. That’s about it, unless you’re in the know and lucky enough to come across brands like Mr Willo.

Mr Willo is a family affair that spans four generations. There’s Melanie who designs, her mother-in-law Lesley who designs and sews, Nana Shirl who comes in from country Victoria whenever Lesley needs reinforcements, and Arlo, their pint-sized garment tester. Upon having Arlo, Melanie realised the boys’ clothing market was sorely in need of something new, so together with Lesley, they dreamed up Mr Willo.

Mr Willo Guthrie

The aesthetic is very hipster chic, with lots of checks and denim as well as the sort of brazen pattern mixing that only a kid can pull off really well. Each piece is handmade with different fabric combinations so what you buy for your child is one of a kind. Uniqueness is rare, and we love Mr Willo’s dedication to the cause.

The effortlessly hip Amphlett Vest ($60) combines all the best fabric: cosy red buffalo plaid, herringbone flannelette and a medium dyed denim to create the ultimate outdoor play garment. It’s warm, fits over big jumpers and keeps little arms free.

Mr Willo designs have so thoroughly addressed every kind of kid concern, so you know they’re listening carefully to little Arlo’s feedback. On shirts, labels are sewn on the outside, cuffs are wide for easy dressing, the grandpa style collars don’t swallow up little faces, and they’re extra long in the body to prevent chubby tummies from catching a chill.

Guthrie, Mr Willo’s fabulous debut collection, is available now, and we can’t wait to see what they dream up for next season.
