Olivia is back and she’s taking on princesses!

Oh dear. My favourite pig is having an identity crisis.

Olivia, the sassiest, most beautifully melodramatic pig on the planet, is back in Olivia and the Fairy Princesses, the latest book from Ian Falconer.

In her latest adventure, Olivia embarks upon a quest for identity with very lofty goals – and being a princess is not one of them!  As well as the fact that “…all the girls want to be princesses…”, there are too many pink, ruffly princesses around, all with little crowns and sparkly wands and Olivia has had quite enough.

“I chose a simple French sailor shirt, matador trousers, black flats, a strand of pearls, sunglasses, a red bag, and my gardening hat.” says Olivia of her outfit for a friend’s birthday party. I hear you, Olivia! You can’t go wrong with a timeless nautical stripe!

Determined to develop a “…more stark, modern style…”, Olivia searches for a way to stand out. What will she be?

All of the things fans love about Olivia are in this latest story – a nod to the arts, her irresistible and ever-so-slightly cheeky attitude and hilarious illustrations. So what does Olivia decide she wants to be? I’m not going to give it away but let me say it has all the panache you would expect from a little pig with such a big future.
