There are two types of parents – those that make and those that buy. I like to think I’m in the crafty hands-on camp, but my partner will beg to differ… Anyway, for those who would rather purchase delightful hand-made (almost-could-pass-as-homemade) bits and bobs for their little ones rather than slaving away with the paints and paste to make something that will end up in the bin, then these quirky collage artworks by Look at the Wall for the nursery or children’s room are just the thing.
The range of handmade pictures features cute pandas, monkeys, frogs, koalas and squirrels crafted from funky papers sourced from artist Monique Gaspar’s growing collection (“I collect all sorts of paper – new, recycled, old maps or anything with a nice design,” she told me).
Mother-of-two-boys Monique was inspired to start the range when it came to decorating her childrens’ rooms and says she couldn’t find anything “that wasn’t babyish and tacky”. The nice thing is that each piece is unique and made with a variety of different papers. Monique ensures that no two designs will ever be the same, and is happy to customise colour schemes to suit your room.
These contemporary collages are also a great gift idea for expectant parents. Who says buying art is just for grown-ups? Each collage is 30x30cm, $120, and available through Urban Child.
