If you’re in need of a little pick-me-up today, this story is guaranteed to lift your spirits. It’s a little tale of an artist from across the ditch, hospital-bound kids and the act of the kindness that’s captured the world’s attention. Benjamin Lloyd promised if he got 50 likes on a Facebook post, he’d give all the kids at a New Zealand children’s hospital temporary airbrushed tattoos. Almost half a million likes later, he’s off to put smiles on many sick kids’ faces.
Kids love temporary tattoos, but this impermanent ink is something else – it’s literally a work of art. Benjamin’s incredibly intricate body art has captured the imagination of hundreds of kids he’s air-tattooed, and he recently uploaded this image to his Facebook account, saying how much he enjoys it – and that he’d ink all the kids at Starship Children’s Health in Auckland if it garnered 50 likes.
Nothing brings me more joy than boosting a kids confidence with a custom tattoo 50 likes and ill go to starship hospital and tat all the kids up.It's airbrushed on.(not permanent) peace
It wasn’t long before social media lit up, and hundreds of thousands of likes later, Benjamin has pledged to keep his promise, writing earlier this week, “Well it looks like I’m off to Starship watch this space!”
Here i come Starship hospital!! 'you say it i'll spray it!!" let's do this!!
Benjamin says his inspiration to tattoo children came from his young stepson Lincoln, who passed away two years ago.
There’s no word as to when Benjamin will be bringing his unique form of art therapy to the children’s hospital, but parents of the young patients have taken to the post with their support.
Benjamin says although his temporary ink looks time consuming, it only takes a few minutes per child. “I promise no kid at Starship will go without!! I will be having a film crew following me around on the day so watch this space and follow my page.”
What an selfless way to use an incredible talent. We’re sure there’ll be plenty of smiles at Starship!
