Specially designed gym equipment unveiled by YMCA Victoria takes exercising with your child to a whole new level.
The YMCA Playnasium includes three popular types of gym equipment with a unique twist that uses your child’s weight instead of the standard gym weights you’re used to.
Little ones can enjoy the ride with mum or dad right in front of them doing all the work.
‘Gym time is playtime’
The specially designed equipment includes the row-row-row machine, the pec-a-boo and the pull upsy-daisy.
Each piece is designed for families with young children aged up to seven to make workouts fun for adults and playtime even better for kids.
Only one set of the Playnasium has been created to be showcased across Victoria in coming months.

“For over 150 years the YMCA has been dedicated to making communities healthier and we believe the best motivation for health is happiness so we get people together to get active,” the YMCA video explains.
“It’s why we invented basketball and volleyball and now the Playnasium … now gym time is play time.”
Promoting health and building bonds
YMCA Victoria Chief Executive Peter Burns says the play equipment “bridges the gap so people can be at the gym and the playground all at the same time”.
“With more than half of Australian adults getting insufficient amounts of exercise and nearly a quarter spending more than eight hours sitting down every day, we wanted to develop equipment that not only helps mum and dad get out into the community but was fun for the whole family,” Peter says.
Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition at Deakin University Associate Professor Kylie Hesketh says bonding during exercise has many benefits.
“Our research shows that active parents have children who are more active,” Professor Hesketh said in a YMCA Victoria media release.
“Being active together has many benefits for a family’s health and wellbeing. Importantly it allows parents to model an active lifestyle to their children and provides a great opportunity for families to bond and have fun together.”
