New Australian animated series promotes critical thinking for preschoolers

A new animated series is joining the ABC KIDS family this August, and it’s full of adventure and discovery and, of course, fun.

If your kid answers everything you say with “why?” we’ve found their kindred spirit. It’s a little boy named Monty Kazoop, star of the series for preschoolers, Kazoops. He’s best friends with Jimmy Jones, a pig, and together they travel around Monty’s imagination finding the answers to the most important question in the universe: why?

As in, “why can’t we play outside when it’s raining?” Monty and Jimmy Jones imagine all the ways they can play in the rain, jumping across giant colourful umbrellas in the downpour. When they return to the real world, they’re full of ideas for new ways to play. A rainy day stuck inside turns into soaking wet capers in the back garden wearing rainboots and coats and playing with frisbees. They prove that you can’t keep an energetic kid down, even in inclement weather.

The animation is wonderfully colourful and engaging, and each episode has an original song by Australian singer and songwriter Scott Langley.

The show does a lovely job of looking at the world through a child’s eye, and because it’s all about imagination, it helps to promote critical and flexible thinking, skills that will serve kids well as they grow up.

Kazoops debuts on ABC Kids on 1 August, 2016, and episodes are on weekdays at 8am and 5:50pm.
