We’ve written about Alexander Girard twice before on Babyology (once in 2008 and once in May this year) so we know how much Babyologists love his wonderful textile creations. We’re very happy to announce that a small, exclusive collection of his work is now available as wall art, pillows, curtains and bedding at Urban Outfitters in the US.
If you haven’t heard of him before, Alexander Girard is considered one of the greatest textile and colourist designers of modern times, working for many years for Herman Miller and designing folk-inspired art for the greats Eames and George Nelson. His distinctive and timeless palate of intense colour, creativity and shapes are recognisable throughout his works.
I first came upon his creations a little over a year ago when looking at the FLOR website in the US that has transmitted his famous designs onto rugs. I immediately fell in love with his ‘La Fonda del Sol’ pattern and thought it would be perfect for any child’s room. Bright, fun and full of life are what his creations bring out in a space.
The current collection at Urban Outfitters contains many items that would suit a child’s space to a tee. The ‘Paper Dolls’ (1972) wall canvas, the ‘Eden’ (1966) patterned bedding and the ‘Love Heart’ (1972) pillow are my personal faves. I would snap up the pillow up in a heartbeat. Prices range from US$58 to US$168 and shipping to Australia will need to be organised via a freight forwarder.
