Last year we showed you a very special book, written for a niche audience.
That book was My Super Single Mum by author Bronwen Fallens and illustrated by Muntsa Vicente. ‘Bronny and Munsta’ have just released the next instalment in their My Super Family series, My Two Super Dads.
My Two Super Dads is a simple story about two dads raising their daughter. The book gives gay families (with two dads) a story that is relevant to their own family dynamic – other than that, what happens in the story is beautifully ordinary – picnics, shopping, bedtime stories, cooking dinner, hugs and kisses.
Like My Super Single Mum, My Two Super Dads is written in gentle rhyme.
“I’ve got two Dads, We make a family, We’ve got a cat and a dog, And a garden with a big oak tree”
“My dads flew over the ocean, When I was a tiny baby, They said Mummy Joy, Spent nine months making me”
Importantly, there is nothing judgemental in the story nor anything that suggests ‘right or wrong’. Instead, the emphasis is on family values of love, safety and security.
Vicente’s illustrations are a delight – bright, bursting with energy and filled with lovely details – keep an eye on the little girl’s constantly changing hair-dos!
