My quotable kid

Kids just say the funniest things and don’t you wish you could remember them the next day?

I’ll admit to being a Twitter addict. I discovered it was the perfect place to keep an immediate record of all those mad things that my kids come out with. From my three-year-old son requesting “California rolls and a puppet show” for lunch to my football-mad six-year-old pondering, “Mum, what if you’re an AFL player and you’re playing at the MCG and you need to do a wee?”, I’ve pretty much dumped it all on Twitter. While it’s all there electronically now, I don’t imagine I’ll still be tweeting when the 21st birthdays roll around and I need some gems to share with their friends.

Record all those funny, unexpected and poignant things your kids say in My Quotable Kid. This hardcover keepsake journal has ample room for recording one liners, quips and conversations as well as pockets for photographs. It makes a fantastic and unique gift for new parents.

My Quotable Kid is available from Fishpond for $24.95.

For another keepsake journal with a difference, take a look at This is Your Book by Ryan Maconochie. Maconochie created the arty baby book as a quirky take on all the vital statistics and more after the birth of his daughter. There is plenty of room for the usual stuff like time and date of birth and baby’s weight but there is also a distinctive current affairs flavour – the price of a six-pack, exchange rates and world maps where you can pencil in the countries at war.

On a more personal level, record names that were considered, family trees and random acts of biting. The book has been designed for the American market (for example ‘Which state you were born in?’ with an accompanying US map) but with 122 pages to fill out there is plenty of space for all your relevant facts.

Maconochie has also created a cool poster tracking his wife’s pregnancy, Today it’s the size of a… which compares the foetus to the size of various fruits and vegetables – it’s all there from the kumquat to the watermelon.

This is Your Book is available from Lulu for US$50. Lulu ships internationally.
