Cosplay cuteness! This mum wins the award for the best dressed baby

Sleep when baby sleeps? No – play dress up when baby sleeps. That’s way more fun.

Just ask Laura Izumikawa, who has become an Instagram sensation after posting photos of her sleeping daughter dressed as some of our favourite pop icons and classic characters. From Jimi Hendrix to Garth from Wayne’s World, four-month-old Joey Marie Choi has donned them all.

And all without a single dummy spit.

What started as a natural infatuation with how adorable her newborn looked sleeping has turned into the most fun dress-up game ever.

Laura admits that her daughter is an incredibly sound sleeper and thus, instead of simply watching baby Joey sleep, she decided to add a few props.

From a sword or hat here or there came a whole world of cosplay as Laura triggered her inner artist and transformed her daughter into every character under the sun.

Of course, there’s a fair shake of cartoon fun too as Joey morphs into Ariel, Pikachu (or whatever that yellow Pokemon character’s name is) and Dragon Ball Z.

Laura, an L.A. based photographer, tells The Huffington Post that her project started as a way to bring a laugh or two to the relatives but has now become so much more. As her Instagram followers grow, so does her creativity and her clever one-liners to complement the pictures.

“It’s a way to memorialise her growth and little milestones,” Laura explains.

Incredibly enough, baby Joey sleeps through most of the photo shoots.

“A couple times she’s woken up while I’m dressing her up, but she’ll just look at me a little dazed and then fall right back to sleep,” Laura said.

The sleeping beauty is certainly causing quite the social media stir as she sleeps her way through popular culture and Laura is hoping her unique photo series will inspire other parents to get creative with their little ones too.

“I really hope she’ll see the photos and videos in the future and have a good laugh. Hopefully she’ll see how loved she was,” Laura says. And hopefully other parents will be encouraged “to have fun with their kids and not get too caught up in the seriousness of parenting.”
