When then-pregnant Porsche Thomas revealed her beautiful baby bump on Instagram, ignorant trolls told the mum-to-be that her belly was “too black” and “nasty”, even questioning her marriage. She was having none of it…
“Excited and nervous”
Porsche, who is the daughter of The Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Peter Thomas (Cynthia Bailey’s ex!) was a couple of weeks out from the birth of her babies when she proudly posted the gorgeous bikini pic.
“Getting down to the wire. Only about two weeks left for me and these boys before they make their debut. Crazy excited and totally nervous. What a way to start #2017” the excited mum captioned the shot.
While the response to the image was mostly admiring and supportive (there are currently over 22,000 likes on the photo), some ignorant types began to chime in.
“No disrespect but why her stomach so black?” one commenter asked. She, unfortunately, wasn’t the only one.
While others questioned her marriage. Aw man. Just no.
“Getting even blacker”
Luckily, Porsche is the kind of strong, intelligent woman who seems to be able to shrug off the trolls and just keep on being fabulous.
She posted another bikini shot a few days later, sending a clear message to the haters as she sipped her tea:
“While some of y’all been in my comments criticizing the blackness that is my belly and me during what shoulda been your holiday cheer, I been over here enjoying life, growing tiny humans, performing miracles and hopefully getting even blacker #justsaying #melaninpoppin #twins #babybump #noairbrushneeded #love and be #loved”

More bumps, please
Porsche hopes the dialogue around her photos will trigger change – and more black baby bumps on Instagram.
“We’re so used to seeing white baby bumps. We don’t really get to see Black baby bumps and when we [do], people have a negative reaction to it, for some reason, like it’s vulgar,” she told BET.
“I don’t think there’s a lot of self-love in the black community,” she said.
“I think the reaction to my photo is evident of that. Most of the negative comments I received were from black people, a lot of dark-skinned black people, a lot of young black people, which is crazy to me.”
“People are so ignorant”
Fans of The Real Housewives franchise will know that Porsche’s dad and Housewives star Peter Thomas is no stranger to criticism either. Naturally he got right behind his daughter, even threatening to give her beautiful bump a further viral push.
“He’s a reality villain so he’s used to backlash! He knows the kind of person he raised and we talked about it.”
“He said, “People are so ignorant, I’m going to repost it and check them!” Porsche explains.
“Everyone is different and that makes this world a beautiful place. I think knowing that gives you power. I love my Black skin, I love my father’s Black skin. Haters are going to hate!”
Meanwhile, Porsche’s beautiful babies have since arrived, and she’s getting on with her life/tea-drinking/baby snuggling like the queen that she is.
“So grateful for this little family of mine. Meet August and Berlin, born 1/7/17 at 8:29am and 8:31am respectively. The loves of my life.” Porsche posted on Instagram.
Congratulations to Porsche and husband, motivational speaker Till H Gross, on their gorgeous new arrivals.
