Dressing up with your mum is the ultimate quality time experience for this mummy-daughter duo, who take Disney-inspired cosplay to a whole new (unachievable for most) level.
Instagram dream team
Canadian mother and super-talented photographer Camillia Courts and her 7-year-old daughter Layla have been documenting their incredible Disney dress-up photo series for the past two years on their Instagram page, Disney Inspired Photo, amassing a huge 30.4 K followers (to date) who just can’t get enough of their work.
It all began at the happiest place on earth (of course!)
In 2014, a family trip to Disneyland and a super special purchase in the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for Layla sparked an idea for a cute photo that Camillia shared on her Facebook page.
According to the Huffington Post, the photo was met with such a positive reception from family and friends that it spurred both mum and Layla on to turn the photo into an ongoing monthly series.
A new hobby is born
Camillia soon realised that buying Layla each pre-made Disney outfit wasn’t going to work and decided to whip some up on her own, and by enlisting the help of a local seamstress, Layla could add her own unique touches to the outfits.
While Layla is the solo star of most of Camillia’s Disney photos, the mum revealed that when she does get in front of the lens she prefers to embrace her darker side.
“Every once in awhile I like to get in on the fun, and I think being the villain is way more fun than wearing the crown.

Have you ever seen such incredible makeup!? My make up artist @missymackintosh blows me away every time! Go give her a follow! My favourite was #Ursula because I actually LOVED the hair and the lips (I was so sad to shower). Second is definitely #Maleficent. Even with those horns and the pointy ears I felt super sexy ;) #disneyvilliancosplay #disneyvillans #villanshavemorefun
“I have a fantastic makeup artist named Missy MacKintosh who has transformed me into Maleficent, The Evil Queen and my favorite, Ursula,” said Camillia to HuffPost.
The duo’s home in British Columbia plays backdrop to her stunning photographic creations, but Camillia told HuffPost that she sometimes swaps out the backgrounds to create a more magical look (is that even possible?!).
Disney cosplay helps Layla come out of her shell
Embracing her inner actress, little Layla has gained bucketloads of confidence since taking on her role in front of her mum’s camera and Camillia has seen the difference it has made.
“She’s a very shy child and I see her light up when she gets into costume,” the proud mum said. “She’s gained a lot of confidence since we started the project and has really come out of her shell.”
These two are making incredible memories together and we are all thankful to be able to watch from the sidelines. Here are some of our absolute favourites from their Instagram account.
Disney’s bravest princess, Merida!
Fish out of water, Ariel
Hair for days, Rapunzel

Elastigirl: "Wait a minute, wait a minute! You left Jack-Jack ALONE?" Violet: "Yes Mom, I'm completely stupid – OF COURSE we got a sitter… Do you think I'm totally irresponsible? Thanks a lot!" Fun facts about this session! -I had the idea to do Violet 2 days before we shot it. -I somehow found a black wig AND the costume the day before. -I looked everywhere for black tall kids boots before I realized I'm going to have to make them. -We made the mask out of EVA foam a few hours before we shot it. -I had to sew the gloves to almost nothing just so they'd fit on her tiny little hands -We photographed this in our backyard. The background is NOT our backyard. -Photo session lasted less than 15 minutes.
