Mother’s Day – one week to go!

We put together a list of Mother’s Day top picks from our sponsors about a month ago to help you with the perfect gift this year. If your partner is not a planner and you know it’s a last minute decision, you still have time to ask for the perfect gift.

Print off the following list, get out your highlighter and circle a
couple of things you’d like. Next, leave the list somewhere it will be
noticed (preferably by someone with a credit card who knows how to shop
online) and hey presto, your Mother’s Day gifts might include a silver
pendant, a silk top or the world’s best hammock…..alongside the
moneybox encrusted with seashells, glitter and love made by your five
year old, of course!

We’ve long been fans of the fantastic range from Apple & Bee and
personally, I have a soft spot for their apple pattern. I acquired a
green apple print bowling bag a little while ago and have had lots of
appreciative comments. So it only seems natural to add to the
collection with a make-up case. Big enough to hold all your toiletries
and make-up, the apple print case includes pockets and a mirror and is eco-friendly to boot! Eco Child stocks a large range of Apple & Bee bags and accessories. The Apple Circle Case is $54.95.

Expectant mums should be taking full advantage of Mother’s Day, just to
get into practice! A nappy bag is an essential and with so many
beautiful bags to choose from, it’s not only a baby must-have but also
a style statement. Thankfully, designers have realised that most mums
ditch their handbags in favour of a nappy bag. So the days of cutesy
designs are long gone and instead there are plenty of chic designs that
handbag lovers will be happy to tote around everyday. For example, you
can bring out your inner rock chick with the gorgeous new crinkle
patent Nico tote from Il Tutto. We previewed the Nico tote
in February – not just for looks, this bag is roomy, features a zip-out
inner lining that can be easily cleaned, a change mat and a plastic zip
pocket for wet things. This bag is only launching mid-April so be the
first to be carrying one. The Nico will be available at Bébé for $249, just in time for Mother’s Day.

When I was first pregnant, the thought of racing out to buy a whole new
wardrobe of maternity clothes was quite exciting. What I didn’t expect
was to be still wearing those same clothes after my baby was born. I
naively took my pre-baby jeans with me to the hospital, fully expecting
everything to bounce back! Thank goodness for designers like Mishka’n’Milka who
know how to make expectant mums and new mums feel fashionable and glam.
For the perfect Mother’s Day piece, try the Stowaway silk top in rich
jewel tones of purple or fuchsia or in wardrobe-staple black. Perfect
teamed with jeans and ballet flats or dressed up with tailored pants.
The Stowaway silk top is $180 and is available from Cedarleaf.

For those who want to hit the metallics for winter, you can’t go past the Rachael Ruddick Bronte Baby Bag
in Gunmetal. Featuring lots of pockets, a water-resistant lining, a
padded leather change mat and spots for things such as your mobile
phone, the Bronte Baby bag will surely evoke some mother’s group envy!
The Bronte Baby bag is $495 from the Kido Store.

For mums who like a giggle, switch the usual bedtime stories for This Little Piggy Went to Prada
– nursery rhymes have never been so fashionable. This humorous book has
been described as perfect for the woman who is more accustomed to
singing Missoni’s praises than singing lullabies. With fashionista
takes on traditional nursery rhymes, it’s sure to make you laugh. This
Little Piggy Went to Prada is available from Urban Child.

Before having kids I did not consider a raincoat an essential wardrobe
item. I figured, why bother when you can stick with a more stylish
woollen coat and carry an umbrella? Then one rainy day, as I was
attempting to push my double pram uphill while juggling shopping bags,
a kinder bag and an umbrella while still getting saturated, I realised
that a raincoat was a winter necessity. You can make a style statement
in the rain with the latest imports from Denmark,  Danefae raincoats. We promise you won’t find a more flattering raincoat! Danefae coats are exclusive in Australia to Baby Goes Retro.

fatboy-headdemock_black_1.jpg

What mum doesn’t deserve to put her feet up on Mother’s Day? Although with the Fatboy Headdemock you
might not ever want to move. This is unquestionably the ultimate piece
of outdoor furniture and I think if I was lucky enough to get one, I’d
make it a ‘mum-only zone’. Made from heavy-duty water and stain
resistant nylon, the Fatboy Headdemock is $715 and is available from Metro Mum.
Mention Babyology at the checkout and our lucky readers will get a $10
gift voucher for orders over $50 or a $20 voucher for orders over $100.

koolaman.jpg

I have reviewed the keepsake jewellery from Koolaman before and since that time I have received the Mia pendant from my own kids (maybe hinting in Babyology posts does
work!). The simple, hand stamped silver pieces can be worn everyday and
with children’s names and birth dates, they make a beautiful Mother’s
Day gift. The Mia pendant (above right) is $140, the Eliza necklace
(above left) is $120. For those who don’t want to wear their heart on a
necklace, Koolaman also make stunning silver key tags. Order directly
through Koolaman Designs.

 serena_and_lily_sling_flax.jpg

How hip can a baby sling be? Pretty fabulous according to a certain celebrity Sunday that gets around Nashville in a divine Market Sling from Serena & Lily.
The Market Sling has no belts, buckles or straps. You buy according to
your size and the sling can be popped on in a flash. As a mother who
has wrestled with baby carriers before (all for a two minute dash into
kinder) the thought of no adjustable bits is heaven and the fact that
these are so pretty is also very appealing. Serena & Lily slings
are available through Shophouse for $239.
