MoMa Play Town

Ready to build an incredibly stylish cityscape?

Artist Laura Ljungkvist (creator of the sensational Follow the Line series of books) has designed a toy ‘town’ in conjunction with New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). The play pieces are printed on heavy card and slot together in various configurations. For Ljungkvist, the challenge was creating something in 3D – she had to think “…volume…Designing this slot-together cityscape that can be put together ‘the right way’ or ‘your own way’ was a big challenge.”

Clearly she rose to the challenge! The result, MoMa Play Town, is beautiful. The set includes illustrated buildings for you to finish colouring, skyscrapes and towers, roads, street signs, terrace houses and more. The set showcases Ljungkvist’s trademark use of colours and patterns – never has a town looked so lively!

The MoMA Play Town is available from Book Depository, where you will also find Ljungkvist’s Follow the Line books. Book Depository ship free to Australia.

Katrina Whelen

Katrina studied planning and design, did the hard yards working in a big office building and then traded it all in for a relaxing (!) life at home with four children. She now fills her time with writing, completing a degree in genetics and taxiing her children around Melbourne to their various sporting commitments (not necessarily in that order).
