As a model, Tess Holliday is used to being in the spotlight. However, it wasn’t a perfectly captured image from a professional photographer that had her making headlines last week – it was an honest photo she shared of her pregnant belly.
If you are unaware of Tess Holliday, then it’s about time you learned the name. She is the model sensation behind the #effyourbeautystandards movement and is one of the top plus-size models in the world.
She is also a mum, expecting another little one shortly and she recently took to social media to share her thoughts on pregnancy the second time around.
Every time I look at my tummy, I'm reminded at how amazing my body is. Even though I've had a baby before, I didn't love…
“Every time I look at my tummy, I’m reminded at how amazing my body is,” Tess writes with an image of her image of her lying down in lingerie, exposing her beautiful baby bump.
“Even though I’ve had a baby before, I didn’t love myself entirely.. So now every kick, every pain, is incredible to me. I get constantly shamed & criticized for existing in this body, but the problem isn’t my size, it’s others inability to comprehend that beauty doesn’t come pre packaged in one size. I’m embracing my stomach getting bigger, stretch marks, & loving this little life I’m growing 🌱💘 ”
Tess’ message has gone viral, with over 100,000 likes (across Facebook and Instagram) and messages of support from other mothers and mums-to-be around the world who also feel the social stigma of body shaming.
We applaud this mumma-to-be – shown here proudly rocking a bikini at the six month stage of her pregnancy – for telling it how it is and for proving that every woman’s body is beautiful, especially during those incredible months of pregnancy and post-pregnancy.
