Foxes and wolves invariably get a bad rap in fairy stories – fair enough, they’re usually leading innocent young children or other animals astray.
Mo Willems, counting on the fact that young readers are well aware of the reputations of foxes, introduces some suspicious characters in his latest release, That is Not a Good Idea!
A crafty fox, a plump goose and a band of opinionated baby geese make up the cast in a simple story that has Willems’ signature comic timing and a clever twist.
The stars of this latest story are without question the noisy baby geese. Borrowing from the pantomime tradition, the chorus of baby geese watch the story between the fox and the goose unfold, all the while warning “That is really not a good idea!” Will their prophesising prove correct?
This story is made to be read aloud. In fact, very loud because I’m sure kids won’t be able to resist joining in the chorus with the baby geese.
