Hot days may tell a different story, but the calendar doesn’t lie – autumn is here and cool weather around the corner. In fact, it’s just the sort of weather perfect for rugging up in the hand knit creations of Misha & Puff.
Misha & Puff is a designer of gorgeous knitwear with a decidedly retro feel for babies and kids. Garments are hand knit in 100 per cent pima cotton or the softest merino wool, and coloured with plant-based dyes. As an American company, Misha & Puff’s latest collection is for spring/summer, but the light weight knits are ideal for our mild, changeable autumn.
The striped grey and cream hooded Plum Island Beach Jacket (US$148) is enough cover for a warm Aussie autumn day, unless you live in Melbourne where many more layers might be required to protect against the bitingly cold days.
There are bloomers in stripes, a textured chevron pattern and then there’s the delightfully puffy Barnacle Bloomers (US$72) with ribbed leg openings and waist band. Any pair would be sweet and cosy under a winter dress worn with little knee socks.
While the designs and yarn are special, the story of Misha & Puff is what captured our hearts. The pieces are hand knit by a collective of women in Lima, Peru. They work from home or in Misha & Puff’s knitting centre, a workplace that provides childcare and meals. The knitter’s name is sewn into the pieces she creates, just like an artist signs her work. It’s refreshing to find such a progressive company supporting its female workforce.
Misha & Puff has an online shop and ships to Australia for US$33.
