Meet the Piperoids

My school-age boys love doing a bit of craft as much as the next kid. Any task that requires cutting, drawing, gluing, taping, painting, hole-punching, beading or weaving – they’ll be there at the ready. However, the majority of craft kits for their skill level are geared toward girls.

Well this craft activity is going to blow their socks off. Meet the Piperoids – paper robots made with careful cutting and folding of paper tubes or pipes (there’s no glue or tape needed). Designed in Japan by Takashi Tsunoda, Piperoids were initially created for us adults to think about the world we live in through hand crafts.

Each Piperoid has moveable parts and there is a huge range of ‘personalities’ available. For example, Muscle Joe often overworks and gets excited to the point that he can’t pay attention to his surroundings. And Cannon Bull is rather lazy and stays home most of the time; he loves pizzas (although Piperoids do not need to eat).

Piperoids are available in Australia at ele-ahbaant and cost between $14.95 and $19.95. There are nine kits to choose from, which should keep the kids busy for a while!
