Mathilda’s Market bestows beautiful wares upon Brisbane

Mathilda’s Market knocked on Brisbane’s door a few weeks ago and City Hall was bursting at the seams with some of the best handmade, unique, limited edition and one-off children’s items local designers had to offer. I spent a few enjoyable hours exploring and discovering (and buying) and below are some brand new, uber chic and groovy finds for Babyologists.

I think I stood at the Evie Rose stall for about ten minutes, along with many others, just soaking up the delectable hair accessories. This area of the market for girls is slightly saturated but Evie Rose is that little bit different – and gorgeous to boot. The ‘Petite Fleurs’ (little flower in French) are hand-stitched and designed in Brisbane by the lovely Katie Fairbanks, who began Evie Rose earlier this year. The difference with her hair accoutrements is the remarkable quality – they won’t fall apart after one wearing – and the many different ways to wear them. Each flower is created with a secure elastic on the back so a clip, ponytail holder, headband or ribbon can be easily slipped on or attached. Ingenious!  I snapped up a vintage inspired blue and pink polka dot Petite Fleur for my little girl and it has quickly became her most prized hair clip. Each Petite Fleur is $10 and comes with a clip and ponytail holder. Purchase direct froim Evie Rose and don’t forget to check out her other stunning creations for hair, including the new ‘Elsa Bloom’ (pictured above) featuring ribbon and buttons.

Mathilda Market shoppers were flocking to the Honey Bunch Designs toys. I’m not sure if it was due to the beautiful fabrics, the obvious quality, just plain cuteness or all three. The sounds of ‘ohhh and ahhh’ were heard as I admired the handmade scrumptious mamma and baby owls and the adorable elephants and piglets. Brisbane-based Jaclyn Snerling designs and makes all the soft toys herself and the love for her craft and attention to detail is evident. I first latched eyes on the piglets and fell in love – they are so soft and huggable in person and would be fantastic for a baby shower gift. Prices range from $25 to $45 on the Honey Bunch Designs Etsy shop.

I also had the opportunity to meet the delightful teams from Babyology favourites Baby Goes Retro, which was full of Scandinavian bliss, Ani & Trio bedding, Gelati Art and Origami Mami. A wonderful way to spend a mornin
