Just when you thought ice cream couldn’t get more perfect, the Cornetto melded with the iconic Golden Gaytime, and BOOM! The Golden Gaynetto was born. This is what real magic looks like, folks.
Sydney’s own Jesse James McElroy, founder of the Golden Gaytime Ice Cream Project, came up with a prototype for the Gaynetto in October 2015.
In a letter to Streets, the company that makes Golden Gaytime, McElroy wrote painstakingly in crumbs that he was “going to need … [Streets to make] … an entirely new product, the Gaynetto.” It got Streets’ attention.
Streets replied last week, telling McElroy that it would be making the Gaynetto.
In a statement, Streets senior brand manager Scott Mingl said, “Streets has received letters out of Gaytime crumbs, petitions and social media requests. Everyone wants more Gaytimes and we’ve listened. It’s important to us to give fans what they want, and Golden Gaynetto is exactly that.”
McElroy is no stranger to success when it comes to making his ice cream dreams a reality. In 2015 he campaigned for Golden Gaytime in a tub. The ice cream is now sold by the 1.25 litre tub. Win!
Since it launched last Thursday, the Gaynetto has been a huge success in Australia and it’s even made its way overseas.
Adam Moussa, an Australian living in New York City messaged Qantas, “please take me home immediately” when he found out about the Gaynetto.
Qantas posted to Snapcat, “Missing out on Gaynettos is never ok – even if you live in New York.” The airline flew a precious box of ice creams to Adam, documenting the Gaynetto’s first class journey from Sydney to LA to New York on social media.
Gaynettos are available at petrol stations and at Woolworths in packets of four for $5.
