Marimekko wows with new kids’ fashion for spring summer 2014

If you like your kids’ fashion with a big dash of bold, a big splash of bright and a whole heap of fun, then today’s your lucky day. Why? Because Marimekko, that Finnish design house of all things extraordinarily bright and fantastical, has just launched its new kids collection.

Come with us on an eye-popping journey through Marimekko’s new kids’ collection for spring and summer 2014. Of course, this is for the upcoming northern hemisphere summer, but there’s plenty of warm weather left to come in Oz, so your kids will most definitely be ahead of the fashion pack. Plus, there’s plenty of transeasonal options that work perfectly for our soon-to-be Aussie autumn, like this sweet Tuutia pyjama set (below) with its fun geometric print and soft cotton fabric.

You’ll find the same cheery print on the Vilkku tunic and Arvoitus raincoat (above). Little Marimekko fans from our soggier states (hello Victoria and Tasmania!) might also like the Lupsakas and Ralli raincoats (below). Whichever you chose, know that each raincoat is water repellant with zip closures as well as wind flaps to keep kids comfortable and dry.

Want more Marimekko? Silly me, of course you do. Clashing pink and orange is the order of the day for girls with the Hassuttaa tee and matching Juksata shirt, while boys can be as brash as they like in the Arvaa shorts and Koikkeli parrot print tee.

And I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s going to go all sorts of gaga over the Keikka dress (below), with its stupendous floral print. Wowza! There’s plenty more tees and dresses too amongst the collection, which is full to bursting with prints from designers the likes of Katsuiju Wakisaka, Aino-Maija Metsola and Maija Isola.

This season Marimekko has also revived two retro favourites from its pattern archive as printed fabrics for its interior decoration line – Pepe (as seen on the Koikkeli tee) hatched by Majia Isola back in 1970 and Rulla, a Katsuji Wakisaka design from 1981.

The new collection is already available  in Marimekko‘s two flagship Australian stores – Marimekko Sydney in King St and Marimekko Melbourne in Chapel St, South Yarra. Girls dresses are $57, raincoats cost $82 and a two-set of onesies costs $57.

Because they know how much we love them, Marimekko are offering all Babyologists a fifteen per cent discount on all new season kids clothing purchases at both stores this weekend only (February 21-23). Just use the code BABYOLOGYLOVESMARIMEKKO in store. Happy shopping!
