Motherhood is a marathon all of its own but one mum is taking her breast pump and quite literally running with it.
We’ve shown you mums who breastfeed as they apply make-up, we’ve celebrated mums not letting formal occasions get in the way of their baby’s need to feed – even at their own wedding – and mums who are just getting sh*t done.
Now we give a nod to Utah mum Anna Young who has shared a photo of herself pumping breast milk while running in a half marathon.
The photo posted to Facebook page, Occupy Breastfeeding, has understandably gone viral.
“Yesterday I ran a half marathon at five months postpartum,” Anna wrote.
“I had to leave at 4.30am and the race started at 6.45am. I nursed my daughter before I left my house, pumped after running the first eight miles and nursed her after I made it past the finish line. This group and Le leche league motivated me to find a way to run my race and take care of my daughter.”
Many people, such as Rachel Burrows, cheered the mum’s rock star move.
“Bloody legend. I also ran a half mara at five months post-partum (by myself) but without travel I could manage without a pump and just a quick dash home afterwards to feed. Pumping mid-race is another level – you as a total boss, mumma,” Rachel wrote.
Of course, there are always some, such as Lyndsay Kidd, who are critical.
“Simple reply…don’t run…nurse your child properly then go onto do all the running you wish..just saying,” Lyndsay writes.
But we love this comment from Rachel Farner: “Anna, congrats on completing your half marathon run while simultaneously enduring the marathon we call motherhood. What an amazing example you are, your willingness to share makes my heart sing!”
