Malibu Barbie’s Dream House

Your dream house may not have shag pile carpets, hot pink walls, an elevator, but no bathroom – but for many little girls the first house they aspire to own is a Barbie Dream House. US interior design extraordinaire, Jonathan Adler has turned Malibu Barbie’s Dream House into a real home.

The house is part of a Mattel promotion to celebrate Barbie’s 50th anniversary (it hardly seems right to say it is her 50th birthday!). The level of detail is both bizarre and completely expected. Naturally Barbie would have monogrammed bed linen and a walk-in shoe closet. She would also certainly have silver ottomans and pink poodles. I’m not so sure about light fixtures made of blond hair or chairs with tulle bustles, but I’m sure Malibu Barbie will give Adler the benefit of the doubt.

Katrina studied planning and design, did the hard yards working in a big office building and then traded it all in for a relaxing (!) life at home with four children. She now fills her time with writing, completing a degree in genetics and taxiing her children around Melbourne to their various sporting commitments (not necessarily in that order).
