I’m not a native Sydneysider and don’t buy into the whole competition thing between the city I ended up in and Melbourne. I love them both for completely different reasons, but must say that when I saw the Make Me Iconic Melbourne tram which we wrote about in May, my first thought was ‘hey, what about Sydney!’. I got over that pretty quickly and began to wonder what Sydney transport icon would make the cut. Sure enough, here it is; the delightful Sydney ferry.
Absolutely, totally recognisable, Sydneysiders will go crazy for this charming wooden rendition of a much-loved transport option. It comes complete with eight passengers and two sailors in uniform, offering kids imaginative play with a very familiar twist.
We love these are made by an Australian company devoted to reviving Australia’s great icons and we think the Sydney ferry will prove just as popular as the Melbourne tram has been.
They’re due to arrive end of October (put them away for Christmas!) but you can pre-order now at a twenty per cent discount using the exclusive code ‘quirkyferry’ at Quirky Kids Online.
In fact the code includes all wooden toys at Quirky Kids so you can splash out and get the tram as well! Usually $95, the ferry comes down to $76 with the discount! Offer lasts until midnight 10 August 2011.
